WHAT IS MOHAIR?
Mohair is a natural fibre sourced from the Angora goat. Unlike angora wool, which comes from the rabbit, mohair has a silky and slightly fluffy surface that holds colour beautifully. It is naturally breathable and insulating, making it ideal for year-round wear.
Cleaning and Washing
Because mohair is a natural fibre, it is self-cleaning and only needs to be washed occasionally. Air your hand knit outside or in an open window to refresh it, and try to spot clean if necessary.
When washing:
- Use dry clean or hand wash on a gentle wool programme
- Turn inside out and wash with similar colors
- Only use wool or silk detergent
- Avoid softeners, bleach and tumble drying
- Reduce spinning
- Dry flat, away from direct heat or sunlight
- Never hang your hand knit, as it may stretch out of shape
STORAGE
Always fold your hand knit when storing. Hanging may cause it to lose its shape. To prevent moths, place cedar wood balls or dried lavender in your closet. Avoid direct contact with the garment to prevent staining. You can also store your knit in a cotton or canvas bag with a zipper for extra protection.
PILLING
Natural yarns like mohair may pill over time, especially in areas exposed to friction. This can easily be removed with a wool comb or razor to restore the soft surface.
